I finally found my design mojo.
It lay dormant as I decorated our home in warm, earthy golds, browns and greens and espresso colored furniture and didn’t reveal itself until recently. I started following a blogger, Joni Lay, who creates bright and airy spaces that make my heart go pitter patter, more than my darker design palette ever has.
And then my friend Sara shiplapped her bathroom and it was love at first sight.
The urge to transform my home into lighter and brighter spaces was pretty overwhelming but I couldn’t identify why I was so passionate about it. I was reminded that the people make the home, not the color of the walls or the furniture inside of it. Agreed but … I also felt like my desire to create beautiful spaces wasn’t frivolous. And then I read an interview from Joni that spoke from my heart:
“I think the space you live in can greatly affect your emotions. I may be exhausted at times but when my home makes me feel at peace and uplifted, it can make such a difference! I love inspiring other moms to make their homes beautiful. It’s not about being perfect, having all the right things or a perfectly tidy home, but it is about small things you can do to make it a joy-filled place where you feel recharged.”
I also love what she says about her approach to designing:
“It’s great to start with an emotion when creating a space. I want our house to feel bright and happy, so that is my criteria when working on a room and it makes it easier to make design decisions when you can ask “does this make me happy” and if the answer is no, then I don’t go with it.”
Joni and Sara have really started something over here. We shiplapped our front nook and now I’m obsessed! I’m ready to transform our home, room by room.
Next up: the living room. We’ll give you a tour as we finish each project.
